Khizr Khan

Khizr Khan
(?-1316)
Ala al-Din Khalji's eldest son, he was ap-pointed heir apparent after the conquest of Chitor (1303). Then only seven years old, Khizr Khan was appointed to govern Chitor with the help of a senior noble, Malik Shahin. Khizr fell in love with and mar-ried Deval Rani, the daughter of Rai Karan Baghela, in 1307. Deval Rani was then staying in the royal harem with her mother, Kamla Devi. During 'Ala al-Din's fatal illness in 1315, Khizr Khan and his mother fell out of favor with Malik Kafur, the na'ib. Malik Kafur obtained orders from 'Ala al-Din for imprisonment of Khizr Khan in the fort of Gwalior. In 1316, Khizr Khan was executed on the order of Qutb al-Din Mubarak Khalji (1316-1320).
